HYDROFIELDS ET

The versatile hybrid system

Hydrofields ET is a carpet-based solution in combination with Hydrorock. Consequently, Hydrofields ET is a more economical solution due to the artificial turf and the practical advantages of the Hydrorock layer. As a hybrid system it will double or even triple the playing capacity. There will also be less damage to the grass, even when used extensively. The construction with sand allows for water to drain quickly and to be collected and stored in the Hydrorock layer.

Composed of natural grass grown in a matrix of artificial turf fibers combined with a Hydrorock layer, Hydrofields ET delivers superior wear tolerance and recoverability.  The backing of the artificial turf is biodegradable which degrades within 4- 6 weeks. What remains is an open grid with the artificial turf fibers, through  which  the roots of natural grass will grow deep.

Within the system Hydrorock in the first place is a substantial part of the total construction due to its high density and at the same airlasticity; secondly it functions as a water management system making a traditional drainage system superfluous; and thirdly Hydrorock is a growing layer providing water and oxygen which encourages roots to grow deep and remain safely below ground, allowing the natural grass to become strong and fully established.

Hydrofields biodegradable backing
  • Composed of natural grass grown in a matrix of artificial turf fibers combined with a Hydrorock layer, Hydrofields ET delivers superior wear tolerance and recoverability.
  • The unique backing consists of a biodegradable carrier with an integrated lasting grid made of PP. The artificial grass is anchored to the grid.
  • Once the jute backing is degraded within 4-6 weeks, the grid with the fibres remains and provides an “open” space for the roots of the natural grass to grow deep.
  • The open foundation promotes drainage, aerification and root development.
  • Artificial turf represents 5% of the playing surface. It protects the natural grass
  • The artificial grass provides vertical stability, and the open grid provides horizontal stability. Stability creates consistency and consistency creates safety.
  • Hydrorock stores water and provides oxygen to the root zone, which encourages roots to grow deep and remain safely below ground, allowing the natural grass to become strong and fully established, whereas the natural grass will grow in the Hydrorock and thus be even stronger.
  • As a system providing dramatically increased wear tolerance compared to conventional grass, Hydrofields ET reduces maintenance and multiplies the frequency of play by at least 2.
  • Hydrofields ET as a system supports optimum ball roll and bounce, and optimum player sliding, turning, stepping and jumping.

CONSTRUCTION

Your decision: open (permeable) or closed (non-permeable) construction?

Depending on your location, local circumstances, the surroundings of the object, climate, the availability of water, etc., one should decide first if the Hydrofields ET system will be build to collect water (closed system) , or to create an aquifer layer (open construction) to balance the natural habitat.

If, for example, in the area you want to construct Hydrofields ET there is a lot of water due to a high ground water level, or due to heavy rainfall, it would be preferable to choose for an open construction. However, if the goal is to re-use water from rainfall or irrigation, closed construction allows you to collect and reuse excess water for a variety of purposes.

Total height 190 mm

  • 40 mm Infill
  • 100 mm Hydrorock
  • 50 mm sand layer with final 5-8 evt with substrate mix

OPEN OR CLOSED CONSTRUCTION

Open system hydrorock

OPEN CONSTRUCTION

The Hydrorock elements allow to make space for water to prevent onsite flooding and drought. Water is retained within the capillaries of the Hydrorock elements or moved in and out through them by water pressure differential between inside the block and the surrounding soil. When the water pressure is equal between the Hydrorock and the soil, water is retained within the block. As the moisture level of the soil drops as it dries, so does the water pressure and water is released from Hydrorock into the soil.

Closed system hydrorock

CLOSED CONSTRUCTION

The implementation of an impermeable layer makes it possible to collect and reuse excess water in an efficient way, for example for washing machines, showers, irrigation, etc.

CONSTRUCTION STEPS

2 – 3 days

1 – Excavation, levelling and compaction

  • 190 mm excavation of the existing soil
  • Excavate trench of (H) 360 mm x (W) 330 mm for the Hydrorock BD element
  • Levelling and compaction of the subgrade

1 day

2 – Installation BD elements with drainpipe

  • Installation of Hydrorock BD element (L 1200 x H 360 x W 330 mm)
  • Hydrorock BD elements function as perimeter drainage

1 – 2 days

3 – Installation of the Hydrorock Panel

  • Installation of Hydrorock panel with (L) 1000mm x (W) 1000 mm x (H) 50 mm

2 – 3 days

4 – Installation of sand layer

  • Installation of sand layer with a height of 100 mm

2 – 3 days

5 – Installation artificial grass

  • Installation of the artificial turf Hydrofields ET
  • Height of the artificial grass is 40 mm
  • Because of the biodegradable backing, the rolls are sewn together

1 – 2 days

6 – Filling sand/substrate mixture

  • Installation of sand/ substrate layer up to the top of the artificial grass fibers (= 40 mm)

1 day

7 – Seeding and watering

  • Seeding of natural grass
  • The type of grass will be determined depending on the location and local circumstances of the field
  • After seeding watering the total area
  • Water will be stored in the Hydrorock layer
